  9. Goal: • Rapid Testing – Pilot Project at GMH Labor & Delivery. • Goal – Provide HIV testing to all Women with unknown status. • Outcome – To implement GMH Protocol to women reactive.

Background: Validation of an HIV testing strategy suitable for Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs) • Between 20 and 22 May 2009, a technical consultation “Meeting of Focal Persons for the Prevention and Control of Sexually Transmitted Infections and HIV in the Pacific Island Countries and Areas” Nadi, Fiji. • Action Items: collecting plasma / serum samples from individuals- HIV testing underway currently at the National Serology Reference Laboratory (NRL) located in Melbourne, Australia.. • identify a combination of two – three HIV rapid tests - used in combination, provide accurate HIV test result • Validation completed, rapid tests to be used in-country, eliminating off-island HIV confirmatory testing for the majority of samples
