Every Breath You Take-The Police In one of The Police’s most recognizable songs, “Every Breathe You Take” is obsessing over someone to the point of knowing their every move. This is like Gatsby moving across the bay from Daisy, just to be able to know what’s going on with her. Gatsby’s heartache over Daisy can be portrayed in the line “Since you've gone I've been lost without a trace, I dream at night, I can only see your face”. You can see in this line that the singer has gone through similar romantic troubles like Gatsby did.
The song “No Sleep” by Wiz Khalifa is about himself and lots of other people with him partying and drinking and some illegal activities all night long. Gatsby’s parties were known to be big and wild. This song just embodies Gatsby’s huge and flashy life, well his seemingly huge and flashy life given off by his weekly parties. This would be played while the party is being introduced.
What goes around comes around-Justin Timberlake What goes around comes around from Justin Timberlake is about adultery and karma. Justin’s girlfriend is cheating on him with a friend and he tells her that karma will get her back. In the end of this song, the girl that cheated on Justin dies in a car accident and is ironic since Mrytle also dies by a car and she too cheated on her lover.
The Funeral-Band of Horses The Funeral by Band of Horses is about being in love with someone so much that you can’t seem to let them be. You need to make sure they are safe and the feeling becomes an obsession. The song says that the singer is ready for the funeral, because he thinks that if anything happens to the one he loves, he will take his life because he can not stand being without her. This songs reminds me of Gatsby because he is so willing to do whatever it takes to win Daisy over and ends up dying.
