For each term: • Find 2-3 images that illustrate what the term or phrase means or what it looks like. • Write 1-2 sentences explaining why the term or phrase mattered in medieval Japan. • DO NOT just use the definition of the word!!!! Calligraphy Japanese characters are called “kanji” and came to Japan from China during the medieval period. This is the name for the art of writing used to create Japanese characters. Calligraphers use a paintbrush and ink stone to create the characters.
