OUTLINE ● Monitor and improve NOAA-18 AMSU-A /MHS post-launch calibration ● Assess and quantify instrument noises though analyzing calibration target counts and channel measurements ● Monitor instrument anomaly and provide recommended solution ● Provide early demonstration and assessments of NOAA-18 AMSU-A & MHS data quality ● Outstanding Issues: Instrument, On-orbit Verification Plan, & Navigation ● Summary ORA NOAA-18 Cal/Val WG

AMSU-A Cal/Val Summary ● Overall AMSU-A calibration is good with quality control flags being properly set whenever there is anomaly in the data stream ● On-orbit AMSU-A NET at all channels meets specification ● AMSU-A2 cold calibration position (#2) count exceeds the nominal value by 26 counts (~0.52o) . MHS Cal/Val Summary ● Overall MHS calibration is good with quality control flags being properly set whenever anomaly occurs ● The NOAA-18 MHS NET for each channel is better than that of AMSU-B ● Spreads among 4 samples of cold & warm calibration counts exceed 400 counts (at same scan line). Ch. gains are too high ● Optimal Space View can’t be determined due to bad OV data ● Navigation problems ORA NOAA-18 Cal/Val WG
