Name: How I can aim for the STARS? Team:________________ What we did: • Provided STARS teaching grid with examples for lesson in all classes • Provided all students with 9th grade academy notebook with a letter introducing program to parents

Prize Patrol • Delivered prizes every other week following drawing • It was always a welcome diversion!
Student participation Teacher participation Stars production Holding regular drawings Finding Motivating Incentives Staying positive The Hurdles
The Successes • We are HERE talking about PBIS • 50 percent of 9th grade academy teachers actively used Stars in their classes • PBIS team Advocated for and obtained a teacher planning period to devote to PBIS 06/07 • 9th grade academy funding will be used to gain additional staff to address tardy problem • OMHS received a very positive SET assessment
Survey SAYS: • Staff buy in survey 55% YES 12% Yes - with reservations 33% No response
Student Survey SAYS: • 42% students report only 1 teacher regularly uses STARS • 36% students report 2 teachers regularly use STARS • 4% - 3 teachers • 4% - 4 teachers • 10 Percent NONE (OUCH)
The Warts • Our beginning was less then spectacular. • Only 66% faculty buy in • 05/06 Freshman orientation was not felt to be effective. • Difficulty finding incentives that motivate kids • Time involved in obtaining prizes • PBIS Team attrition/sporadic meetings • Data input – loss of SWIS trained personnel • Initial Data can be discouraging
The Future Minor incident reports will be implemented in at least 50% of the classrooms. Stars incentives will be used by at least 75% of 9th grade teachers. Regular drawings will be held for students every other week and at a consistent time. Daily announcements will be made regarding STAR behavior and upcoming drawings. Monthly drawings for teachers will be held. Posters will be developed and posted in halls. Recruit parent member/participation
