  2. Vocabulary A three-dimensional figure is a figure that does not lie in a plane. It has three dimensions: length, width, and height. A face is a flat surface on a 3D figure. An edge is a segment where two faces meet. A vertex is a point where two or more edges meet.

  3. Prisms A prism is a 3D figure with two parallel and congruent faces that are polygons. These faces are called bases. The lateral (side) faces are rectangles. Prisms are named for the type of bases they have. Pentagonal Prism Rectangular Prism

  4. Pyramids A pyramid is a 3D figure with one polygon for a base. The other faces are triangles, and they connect at one vertex called the apex. A pyramid is named for its base. Rectangular Pyramid Triangular Pyramid

  5. Other 3D Shapes A cylinder has two congruent parallel bases that are circles. The lateral side is a rectangle A cone has one circular base and one vertex.
