1. The Command to love God • Jesus quotes from Deuteronomy 6:5 • And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
3. The Characteristics of true love for God. • To love God with all my heart, mind, soul, and strength is to commit myself to: 1. be totally loyal to God and obey Him in everything 2. to delight in Him 3. to rejoice in serving Him 4. to desire continually to please Him 5. to seek my happiness in Him 6. to thirst day and night for a fuller enjoyment of Him.
Element 5: To seek my happiness in God. • As we think about seeking our happiness in God, we want to learn: • God is the source of happiness. • Happiness is the satisfaction that comes from doing what is good in God’s eyes. • God wants to learn how to derive our happiness from our relationship with Him.
Element 5: To seek my happiness in God. 1. God is the source of happiness. Psalm 16:11 - “You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; in Your right hand there are pleasures evermore [forever].”

God is the inventor of happiness – “in Your right hand there are pleasures evermore [forever].” God wants us to know that true and lasting “happiness” comes only from a growing personal relationship with Jesus -“in Your presence is fullness of joy”

Psalm 36:7-8: 7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. 8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

God promises happiness (contentment and satisfaction) to those who obey Him. Deuteronomy 5:16: “Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may be well with you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you.”

Deuteronomy 5:33: You shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess.
