  1. Geodetic Infrastructure in the Pacific Island Countries Andrick Lal Project Officer – Surveying GIS Conference - FIJI 18th November 2013

  2. Pacific Sea Level Monitoring Project (PSLMP) Geodetic Infrastructure of the Pacific Islands Countries (Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Tonga, Tuvalu, Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands, Nauru, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Samoa & Vanuatu is based on the Pacific Sea Level Monitoring Project (COSPPac). PSLMP is a data gathering network that enables us to “monitor” what the sea level and how the tectonics in the region is doing today, and to provide data to support the work of meteorologists and climatologists to predict with a moderate-to-high degree of confidence climate variability over the next three to six months. With its combination of precise levelling, CGNSS (ITRS) and highly accurate sea level monitoring, the PSLMP is acknowledged in the climate scientific community as one of the best networks in the world.

  3. CORS – PSLMP and IGS Stations

  4. CGNSS Stations • (Horizontal Datum) – ITRS • SEAFRAME (Tide Gauge) Stations • (Vertical Datum) – Chart /MSL Datum How PSLMP can play an important role? The Geodetic Stations ensure compatibility across various geographic, land and survey systems at the local, regional, national and global level. It is becoming the reference layer for the cadastre or land administration system, transit / road networks, infrastructure corridors like gas, water, power, communications etc.

  5. Geodetic Contributors • Geodetic Survey Network (Control Surveys) • Unifying Height Datum (Vertical Datum) • Determination of Transformation Parameters • Cadastral & Engineering Surveys • Digital Elevation Models • Coastal Zone Management • Mitigation Some Examples…… • Pacific HYCOS Boreholes Surveys • Photo Control Surveys for high resolution spatial images • Beach Profile Surveys • Static GPS & Topographical Surveys • Regional Maritime Boundaries Project

  6. All parameters (water levels, wind, air and sea temperatures, atmospheric pressure) are sampled at one second intervals. Tide Gauge – SEAFRAME Stations FSM Tide Gauge Sensor FSM Tide Gauge Hut

  7. CORS Station – LAUT LAUT CGNSS HUT LAUT Pillar CGNSS network monitor movements (Horizontal & Vertical) in the earth's crust at the SEAFRAME tide gauges. If movements such as subsidence or tectonic shifts do happen, the system will allow sea level monitoring to be adjusted to the earth's movement to within millimetres

  8. CORS Stations – Pillar Setup • Deep Survey Benchmarks • Temporary Benchmarks – Stainless Steel Pins • Provides links from the Tide Gauge to the CGNSS Stations PSLMP – Geodetic Stations

  9. Locality Diagrams

  10. AUSPOS – online GPS Processing http://www.ga.gov.au/earth-monitoring/geodesy/auspos-online-gps-processing-service.html

  11. Online GPS Survey Processing Centre

  12. Time Series Datasets • Weekly Solutions of Asia Pacific Reference Framework • Weekly Station Coordinates and Performance • VINAKA VAKA LEVU PSLMP Stations
