High Performance Cloud Computing:Making Business more Efficient and Profitable in a Competitive Market
What is high performance computing? • Solving the 10,000 piece puzzle • Collecting Data – What to do with it? • We’ve got PC’s and a server that are working Why do I need HPC?
Cloud Computing: Not in your office A High Performance Computer: SGI Altix ICE 8200 Cluster 14,336 3 GHz Cores 28 TB Local Memory 172 TB File Storage
For the first time a full-length visualization of a ribosome's behavior is presented to researchers. • These new images show the behavior of the ribosome through its full range of motion-much like early photographic motion studies that showed the entire fluid movement of a galloping horse. • The understanding provided by the new visualization model will help researchers to develop more effective antibiotics that target the ribosomal machinery of harmful organisms. • The research could aid in development of new antibiotics used to fight multidrug resistant superbugs such as MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections) found in many U.S. hospitals.
Research in the national laboratories benefit pharmaceutical companies to develop new drugs to fight resistant superbugs.
Efficient: • Breaking down the barriers: Cost of HPC Cloud • Bricks and Mortar – Vinyl vs. Download • The future of Licensing: Pay as you go • IT Specialists: Can’t my brother’s best friend’s son fix my PC? • We have different departments that don’t communicate- how can HPC help us? • What about disaster recovery? • Intellectual storage? • Where does it live?
Profitable: • Productivity • If you could do it faster? • If you could do larger jobs? • If my staff could communicate better? • If I could tap into all of the old information or results and add something different? • Smart Manufacturing – make the machine do the work – not your pocket book
Competitive: How to stay ahead • First to Market • Better, Cheaper, New capability • Application and Software Development • The new Einstein- Intellectual resources shared.. • Open source • Global vision: Who are we? • Manufacturing in the 21st Century • Transportation in the 21st Century
