  1. Framework schedule from YETS 2015 to LS3 Marzia Bernardini, on behalf of OSS team Joint LIU and HL-LHC meeting, 15th October 2015

  2. Contents General information YETS and EYETS - activities related to regular maintenance - length of YETS and EYETS for LHC and Injectors LS2 - Framework for LHC - Framework for Injectors Beyond LS3: overview for LHC and Injectors Methodology & Interfaces with EN-MEF Coordination & Schedule & Safety aspects Conclusion M. Bernardini - 15th October 2015

  3. Overview & Contingencies • Contingency strategy • There are NO contingencies in the global schedule, from the general coordination point of view • For the Injectors, a long recommissioning period is foreseen to mitigate potential issues related to the restart of the machines M. Bernardini - 15th October 2015

  4. YETS regular maintenance & tests LHC - CV maintenance in LHC and its Experiments 10 wks • Safety tests (mainly during Christmas Break) by GS-ASE and EN-EL • Minor regular maintenance on cryogenic equipment and rotating machines • LHC Recommissioning  1 wkcan be considered as baseline if not major interventions occur during the YETS Regular maintenance activities on other equipment are performed in the shadow of the activities listed above • In conclusion the minimum length (beam to beam) of the YETS for LHC is 13 wks(including the Christmas Break) M. Bernardini - 15th October 2015

  5. YETS regular maintenance & tests SPS • Hardware tests (mainly magnet tests) before and after the shutdown 2wk • CV maintenance for SPS (not including North Area)  6wks • Activities related to Recommissioning by BE-OP3 wks can be considered as a baseline, but this duration can evolve • The safety tests by GS-ASE and EN-EL Regular maintenance activities on other equipment are performed in the shadow of the activities listed above • In conclusion the minimum length (beam to beam) of the YETS for the SPS is 13 wks* (including the Christmas Break) * The RP cool down period is not included M. Bernardini - 15th October 2015

  6. YETS regular maintenance & tests PSB & PS • Hardware tests (mainly magnet tests) before and after the shutdown 1wk • CV maintenance for PSB, PS, Linac2 and Linac4 (not including Isolde, AD, East Area, CTF3 and n-TOF)  5wks • Activities related to Recommissioning by BE-OP 3wks can be considered as a baseline, but this duration can evolve • The safety tests by GS-ASE and EN-EL Regular maintenance activities on other equipment are performed in the shadow of the activities listed above • In conclusion the minimum length (beam to beam) of the YETS for the PS and PSB is 11 wks* (including the Christmas Break) * The RP cool down period is not included M. Bernardini - 15th October 2015

  7. YETS: reality vs baseline YETS 2015-2016 and 2017-2018 • LHC & SPS: YETS kept to 13 wks • PSB and PS: duration aligned to LHC and SPS. Due to the following requests: • Decabling project and its implementation strategy; • Anticipation of LIU activities during YETS Duration of YETS 2015-2016 & 2017-2018 M. Bernardini - 15th October 2015

  8. EYETS 2016-2017 LHC In addition to the baseline there was a request from CMS to anticipate works of LS2, to prepare the Experiment to cope with the 2e34 cm-2s-1 luminosities. These works imply the full opening of Endcaps and impact the duration of the YETS INJECTORS The implementation strategy of the decabling project foresees a massive decabling campaign in the PSB during the Year End Technical Stop 2016-2017 Extended Year End Technical Stop 2016-2017 M. Bernardini - 15th October 2015

  9. LS2 Framework for LHC During the LS2 three main categories of activities will be implemented • Maintenance: Cryogenics, Cooling and Ventilation, Vacuum, Electrical Systems, Collimation, Access System, Fire detection, ODH, … • Projects: HL-LHC • Consolidation & Other activities: this concerns all equipment in the LHC machine LS2 Days: https://indico.cern.ch/e/436424 The Baseline as for Chamonix 2014 foresaw a Length of LS2 of 18 Months, but following the requests of the Hi-Lumi LHC project and the outcomes of the cost and schedule review, the Length of LS2 is now extended to 24 Months. 13. LS2 Framework for Injectors Defined by LIU project L4 7 months PSB 15.5 months PS 11.5 months SPS 18 months Start of LS2 for the injectors: • Surface activities for Linac2, Linac4 and PSB machines will start in November 2018, during tunnel RP cooling. • All other surface activities for PS and SPS will start at the end of the ion run, in December 2018.
