Multidisciplinary Office Building 4 Sheets thick of ¾” inch Plywood 2”x12”, Two Deep 16 ft 6”x6” 2”x12” 32 ft for Baker Architects The Project Team: Darrin Lowe, Andy Mullis Eric Munchel, Scott Tourville Project Background/Objective • Design new office building (20 person architecture firm) • Incorporate a ravine into building design Roof Truss • Investigate use of innovative materials • Design roof truss out of plywood • Incorporate cable stay systems into design. The client requested a curvilinear truss (top member) for aesthetic appeal (to match curves of ravine). The Ravine A site assessment was performed: topographic survey, hydrologic study, and soil assessment. • Survey shows a ravine to be 18 feet • deep with span of 85 feet. • Hydrologic study for 100-year rainfall event • reveals water to be 7 feet deep. • Soil is sandy lean clay (3300 psi • compressive strength). Cable Stay System A pedestrian suspension bridge and a cable stay roof truss system were incorporated into the design. Innovative Materials Innovative materials were incorporated into design to showcase for potential clients. • Entryway Bridge (10 feet wide, 85 feet long). • Bridge Criteria (handicap accessible, • ambulance load rated). • Translucent Concrete • Cable Stay Roof System (supports • trusses in concert with columns). • Porous Pavement • Bamboo Floors • Recycled Concrete • LEED Approved Utilities
