  5. Radio Wavelengths and Frequencies • Propagation Speed of Radio waves is equal to the speed of light. • Aproximately 300,000 km/sec Or 300,000,000 meters/sec

  6. Formula C = f x Lambda C = Propagation speed of radio waves(Speed of light) f = Frequency = Period of cycle. The time it takes for a wave to move from zero to 360 degrees Lambda = Wavelength = the distance from one wave top to another.

  7. Lambda = Wavelength = the distance from one wave top to another. f = Period of cycle. The time it takes for a wave to move from zero to 360 degrees

  8. Unit of Measurement Hertz Or Hz The Unit used for measuring frequency is HERTZ, Symbolized by Hz

  9. Example 1 1 THz (Terra Hz) = 1,000,000,000,000 Hz 1 GHz (Giga Hz) = 1,000,000,000 Hz 1 MHz (Mega Hz) = 1,000,000 Hz 1 KHz (Kilo Hz) = 1,000 Hz

  10. Example 2 Ch 70 = 156.525 MHz = 156,525 KHz = 156,525,000 Hz

  11. Example 3 Convert 125 MHz to kHz = 125 000 kHz = 125 000 000 Hz

  12. Example 4 Convert 12.5 MHz to Hz = 12 500 kHz = 12 500 000 Hz

  13. Find the wavelength for VHF ch. 70 (156.525 Mhz) L = C f L = 300,000,000 m/sec. 156,525,000 Hz L = 1.92 meters

  14. Find the frequency if wavelength is 600 meters. f = C L f = 300,000,000 m/sec. 600 m. f = 500,000 Hz

  15. Find the wavelength for 2182 kHz L = C f L = 300,000,000 m/sec. 2,182,000 Hz L = 137.49 m
