Why York? • Highly placed in most league tables relating to quality • 4,000 students live on or near the main campus, generating a lively and varied social and cultural life. • The College structure and personal supervisor system provide students with a supportive environment. As a result, the University has a very low dropout/failure rate. • Our graduates have an impressive record of obtaining work and further study with a range of employers and institutions. • Voted European Tourism City of the Year in 2007 • The development of York Science Park has made York one of the first dedicated Science Cities in the UK The University of York was founded in 1963 with 200 students. Since then, it has expanded to 11,000 students and has over 30 academic departments and research centres.

The future • Expansion plan takes York to 15000+ students in next ten years through development of a new campus • Commitment to ‘Widening Participation’ • Expand existing subjects: e.g. medicine, management, biology, psychology, computer science, English, social policy, economics • New subjects: law, finance, theatre/film/TV • New research centres: eg neuroimaging, immunology, epidemiology, nanofabrication, childhood studies • New support facilities: 4 colleges, arts and sports centres, conference centre, biomedical and IT incubators • New professorships & readerships for intellectual leadership

  10. Heslington East Campus • Heslington East is the name of the proposed extension of the University of York's campus. It is an area of land to the east of the existing campus at Heslington. • It is proposed that the extension will have a similar mix of activities to the current campus, with colleges, academic buildings, community facilities and significant green areas, including woodland and a lake.
