A (born 1935) is an Indian Scriptwriter and Actor who wrote numerous screenplays for Bollywood films. • A frequently collaborated with writer B and the duo is credited as A-B who wrote a number of commercially and critically successful Hindi films in the 1970s and early 1980s. • They made the writer's role popular with their names appearing in the posters of the films, and in some films they shared up to 25% of the profit. • Their association lasted until 1982,following which B moved into writing lyrics for films. • During their time working together, the duo won six Filmfare Awards.
B’s first marriage was to C. • C began her Bollywood career as a child actress with roles in films like Chirag Kahaan Roshni Kahaan and Bombay Ka Chor. • She has acted in over 72 films and later became a successful scriptwriter. • C's sister D (born 1952) is a famous former Bollywood child artiste of the 1950s and 1960s.
C and D became household names - the films that had both fetched the biggest openings. Stories were re-written to include them in the cast or increase their footage in the films, and they were prominently publicized in the promos of their movies. • Their most-remembered movies, together or separate, include Bandish, Jagte Raho, Bhai Bhai, Naya Daur, Hum Panchi Ek Dal Ke, Musafir, Sahara, Quedi No. 911, Duniya Na Mane, Do Ustad, Dhool Ka Phool, Soorat Aur Seerat and Chandi Ki Diwar.
B and C produced two children, daughter E and son F - both critically acclaimed Indian filmmakers. • E made her debut as director with critically acclaimed Luck By Chance which also starred her brother F and Konkana Sen Sharma in the lead roles. • E's second movie as a director is Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, again starring her brother F. • B divorced C and married G in 1984.
G is the daughter of H and I,both of whom were members of the Communist Party of India. • H (1919 - 2002) is considered to be one the greatest Urdu poets of the 20th century. • His greatest feat as a writer was Chetan Anand's Heer Raanjha (1970) wherein the entire dialogue of the film was in verse. • H also won critical accolades for the script, dialogues and lyrics of M.S. Sathyu's Garam Hawa (1973), based on a story by Ismat Chughtai. • H also wrote the dialogues for Shyam Benegal's Manthan (1976) and Sathyu's Kanneshwara Rama (1977). • I is an Indian activist and stage and film actor and through her career associated with the Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA), the Progressive Writers Association and Prithvi Theatre.
G (born 1950) is an Indian actress of film, television and theatre ; alumna of the Film and Television Institute of India of Pune, she made her film debut in 1974 and soon became one of the leading actresses of parallel cinema. • G is a record five time winner of the National Film Award for Best Actress and several international honours and has also received four Filmfare Awards. • G has appeared in over 120 Hindi films in both mainstream and independent cinema, and since 1988 she has acted in several foreign projects. • G is a social and women's rights activist, a Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA), and a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian parliament.
G has a brother J. • J is an Indian film cinematographer and even though not as well known as his sister,he has used his lenses in films like, Arjun, Beta, Dil, Tezaab, Mr. India, Akele Hum Akele Tum and Pukar. • Actress K is G's niece. • K has mainly acted in Hindi films, though she has also starred in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Bengali language films, as well as one American film - the leading role in Mira Nair's The Namesake. • K has won the National Film Award for Best Actress twice, and she holds the record for the most wins of Filmfare's Critics Award for Best Female Performer, with four. • In 2003, K starred in a film titled L,an adaptation of William Shakespeare's Macbeth where she played Nimmi based on the character Lady Macbeth. • The film was directed by Vishal Bharadwaj and also starred Pankaj Kapoor, and Irfan Khan. • Bhardwaj then moved on to adapting William Shakespeare's M in his 2006 film Omkara which won him commercial as well as critical success.
