RATIONALE • About DTI-RuMEPP • Target poor enterprising province (South Cotabato), one of the 19 accdg to NAPC • Provides BDS to micro-entrepreneurs (level 1) • About the Project • Provides comprehensive package on bamboo industry development gearing towards promotion of e-bamboo • Legal Basis: EO 879, May 2010
Target Project Outputs • LGU is supportive of Bamboo industry through the creation of bamboo industry development council • Bamboo related intervention in the Province is harmonized through the implementation of concrete bamboo industry plan (2011-2013) • Bamboo furniture/craft in the Province is responsive to current market needs through production of innovative and market driven products that is competitive with other players. • Engineered bamboo is advocated through E-bamboo roadshows. • Ascertain supply of bamboo in the province to support a bamboo hub that will produce e-bamboo products
Strategies • Bamboo stakeholders forum and workshop on Bamboo industry development plan • Issuance of EO by the Governor for the creation of bamboo industry development council • Bamboo data consolidation (availability of bamboo) with DENR • Gather data on DepEd’s requirement of desks and chairs for the next five years • Training cum production on new design for bamboo furniture with TESDA, DA, DTI • Provision of other BDS/ technical trainings like nursery, clump management, splitting, business mgt, FMT
Strategies • Institutionalization, business registration of bamboo craft/ furniture producers • Training on e-bamboo pre-processing and provision of common service facility • Market linkage of a node to a hub (for e-Bamboo) • Massive (re) planting of bamboo; esp. afus • Local Missions to identified bamboo hubs and to provinces that promotes bamboo e.g. Abra
Project Assumptions • Assured participation of LGUs and agencies • Equity of MEs in business development • Certain supply of bamboo for delivery to bamboo hub • Establishment of at least 1 bamboo hub in the region • DepEd’s demand on e-bamboo desks and e-bamboo chairs
