Training in ACE 2012http://traininginace2012.coonarahouse.org.au/ Facilitate engaging & fun e-learning. Tuesday 16th October at 7pm. With Debbie Whitehead Resources for this session will be accessible at: http://traininginace2012.coonarahouse.org.au/Facilitate+elearning
Objectives This workshop will: • take us back to the basic principles of designing high quality training delivery • explore how the proven traditional methods still apply in e-learning
What do we already know? When designing our class sessions, what types of things are important to keep in mind? • Nature of the learning goals – skill? Knowledge? Attitude? • Learning styles • Special needs of the students • Adult learning principles • Opportunities for practice. • Embed employability skills • Develop critical thinking • Develop reflective practice
The principles of Adult Learning Adults are autonomous and self-directed. • Their teachers must actively involve adult participants in the learning process and serve as facilitators for them. Adults have accumulated a foundation of life experiences and knowledge. • How do we help learners to connect what they are learning to this knowledge/experience base? Adults are goal-oriented. • Upon enrolling in a course, they usually know what goal they want to attain. Instructors must show participants how this class will help them attain their goals. Adults are relevancy-oriented. • They must see a reason for learning something. Instructors should help to link theories and concepts to familiar settings and make learning applicable to their work or other responsibilities to be of value to them. Adults are practical. • focusing on the aspects of a lesson most useful to them in their work. Adults need to be shown respect. • Instructors must acknowledge the wealth of experiences that adult participants bring to the classroom
Learning styles • Visual • Auditory learners • Kinaesthetic or tactile
