Categories of Immigrants 2011 • Skilled workers and professionals (for people who want to work in Canada) • Quebec-selected skilled workers • Canadian Experience Class (people who have recent Canadian experience at work & school) • Investors, entrepreneurs and self-employed people (for people who want to start a business in Canada) • Provincial nominees (provinces/territories nominate specific people to work there) • Sponsored family members (Canadian citizens can ask for their family members to join them here in Canada)
Skilled workers and professionals education, work experience, knowledge of English and/or French, and other criteria that have been shown to help them become economically established in Canada. Skilled workers are selected as permanent residents based on their
Skilled workers and professionals • They are evaluated by a point system to see if they are eligible to qualify as a skilled immigrant worker. • Must have a pass mark of 67. • Must do a language proficiency test • Have a valid offer of arranged employment OR have one year job experience in an occupation that is in demand here in Canada
Friday’s Immigration Simulation Game • Will be play acting (costumes could be used) • Half the class will be various immigrants (teacher will give you a script with info about the immigrant) • The other half of the class will be Canadian Immigrant officials (you will be given the immigration admissions criteria)
Friday’s Immigration Simulation Game • The ‘immigrants’ will try to enter into Canada at different time periods in history (ex. 2011, 1901) • The ‘officials’ will be representing a particular Canadian time period, and processing the immigrant applications according to the rules of that time • Bring props like suitcases, ties, suit jackets, shawls etc.
