Short presentation - BIT programme The BIT Programme is a market-driven and user-driven innovation programme created with the objective of developing and improving internal and external business processes for SME companies in vital sectors, in order to improve the competitive strength on national and international levels. Stages: a)Branch projects mainly concerned with branch solutions made to improve the companies’ internal business processes. This stage qualifies for the next stage, involving the entire value chain. b) Value chain projects with emphasis on value chain solutions and business development in order to improve efficiency and to develop the entire value chain of the company, from production to market. c) International projects with emphasis on integration with international markets to increase market access. During the period 1997 to 2002, project work focused mainly on branch projects. 25 branch projects were completed in this period. In 2003, the value chain projects commenced. The solutions and the know-how developed are made available to all companies within the business sector on regular commercial terms. 300 projects involving pilot companies have been carried out, with companies from all parts of the country. The solutions for the participating sectors have been distributed to around 3000 companies. The various branches have performed profitability studies as part of the project agenda. Examinations of the accounts of 40 pilot companies representing 10 branches show that the pilot companies turn out significantly greater profit than other companies in the same branches.
