Understanding Bible Basics • The Bible is 66 different books • Written by 40 different people • Written over a period of about 2,000 years • Consist of 2 volumes called the Old Testament and the New Testament • Although spread out in 66 different books, the Bible is a single message • Written in 3 languages: Hebrew, Aramaic & Greek • You CANNOT truly learn the depths of the Bible without accepting Jesus Christ and help from the Holy Spirit (John 14:25, 1 Corinthians 2:11-14) The Berean Approach

No one comes to the Father except through Me (John 14:6). • He who has seen Me has seen the Father (John 14:9). • I and My Father are one (John 10:30). • Most assurely, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM (John 8:58). • I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death (John 8:51). You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form. 38 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. 39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. 40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life” (John 5:37-40). All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. Therefore, this is the same Jesus… • 13 who said to Noah….“The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch” (Genesis 6:13-14). Therefore, this is the same Jesus… • who said to Abram: 1“Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. 2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 12:1-3). Therefore, this is the same Jesus… • who said to Moses: “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob” (Exodus 3:6). • “I AM WHO I AM. “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you” (Exodus 3:14 compare to John 8:58). Therefore, this is the same Jesus… • who said to Zechariah “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn (Zechariah 12:10). The Berean Approach

  16. Therefore, this is the same Jesus… • who said to Malachi, “Behold, I send My messenger, and he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple, even the Messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight. Behold, He is coming,” says the Lord of Hosts (Malachi 3:1). Abide in Jesus • To remain (or abide) habitually in Jesus’ words • To hold fast, obey, and practice Jesus’ teachings • To persevere in obedience to Scripture, in good times, and bad times, when convenient, and when not convenient Without Sin? Perfect? Matthew 28:18-20 - 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Matthew 16:13-19 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Metanoeo Greek Reference Number 1577: Ekklesia, a calling out of people who have been set apart for a particular purpose. In Christianity, it means a group of called out people who have been set-apart by God. The Berean Approach

The Ekklesia • Metanoeo (met-an-o-eh-o): • To perceive afterwards (or to receive then have an understanding), followed by a total change in your thinking and behavior • For example, see Acts 2 (pay attention to the attitude of the people in verse 13 in comparison to verse 37) • Metanoeo in the Christian Bible means to undergo a total change in attitude, thinking, and behavior that is motivated by total commitment to God– to become someone new – a new creation in Christ Jesus Repentance The Berean Approach

Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated? 8 No, you yourselves do wrong and cheat, and you do these things to your brethren! 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. Image of Jesus Christ • 4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). The New You • 4 A Christian suffers long and is kind; a Christian does not envy; a Christian does not parade himself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek his own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). The Ekklesia The Power of • John 14:15-24: 15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. • 19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. 20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. In Closing… • A word of encouragement from 1 Peter 3:8-12 • 8 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; 9 not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. 10 For “He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit. 11 Let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it. 12 For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers; but the face of the LORD is against those who do evil.”
