Outline Basic ocean circulation theory will be discussed based on idealizations of the ocean as one- and two-layer fluids with parameterized surface and bottom boundary layers.  Time-permitted, basic techniques of numerical ocean modeling are described.  The course is aimed at advanced undergraduate and graduate students in Science and Engineering.  Some knowledge of calculus (series expansions and differential equations) and Newtonian fluid physics are assumed.
