Introduction Paragraph • Introduce the story by stating the title and the author • Give a QUICK summary (3-4 sentences) • Thesis Statement (what are the conflicts) The movie, “Finding Nemo” by Andrew Stanton tells a lovely story about father and son. A young clown fish named Nemo is captured by divers and his father searches the entire ocean looking for him. The father, Marlin, then meets a forgetful fish named Dory that helps on his adventure. In the end of father finds his son, but not without encountering many conflicts along the way. Two conflicts that Marlin and Dory face during the movie are the sharks, and the jellyfish.

Use text evidence! • Go Back: Restate the conflict • The first conflict is that Marlin and Dory face are the sharks. This is a problem because sharks can be very deadly to fish if the sharks are hungry. Marlin and Dory are in trouble because Dory hurts her nose and begins to bleed. Sharks love the smell of blood and begin to go after Dory. “’Dory, are you okay...?’[Sniffs the blood; his eyes turn black] ‘Ooooooooo, that's good...’ (Stanton 50). Dory and Marlin now to have to escape the hungry sharks and get away if they want to survive. Battling and escaping the sharks is just one of the conflicts that Marlin and Dory have to face.

  6. Text Evidence Finding information in the TEXT to support the question or PROMPT that is being asked. Prompt: Harry Potter is a famous wizard. How does J.K. Rowling let the audience know that Harry Potter is a famous wizard. Think about the question first and then go back to a scene where it specifically identifies the idea of Harry Potter being a wizard.

This shows that Harry is a parseltongue, meaning he can talk to snakes, which is only a feature that certain wizards can have.

  8. Concluding Paragraph • Restate the thesis with new words • Wrap up any other details that are relevant to the expository response. In conclusion, Finding Nemois a great story that brings together father and son. The conflicts of facing the sharks and the jellyfish make them stronger and confident for the rest of their lives.
