Purpose • To better understand the social and economic situation in the Monteverde Zone • To compare the socio-economic indicators and resident attitudes of Cañitas and Los Llanos with the rest of the region • To gather information that will help develop accurate scenarios Presenter: Kathleen Wilson

Methodology • Create summary statistics with selective variables from the MVI Household Survey • Comparison of means and frequencies by community. • About the survey: • Sponsored by the Monteverde Institute • Door-to-door survey from August and September 2002 • Open and closed-ended questions • 532 households and 93 tourist businesses surveyed • 74% of surveyed were women, 26% men Presenter: Kathleen Wilson

  8. Employment Picture of MV Zone • Households- 532 • Average Household Size- 4.02 • Total Number of People – 2139 • Workers per Household- 2.07 • Total of Workers-1101 • Number of Jobs Worked by People Living In Zone-1256 • Number of Jobs Worked per Worker –1.14 Presenter: Kathleen Wilson

  9. LL CP Why Picture Is So Complicated Each household can have up to 6 workers, and some can have as many as 4 jobs, all with different locations, job types and salaries.   11. Observations • Los Llanos is less effected by tourism than other parts of the MV zone • Los Llanos has experienced population growth in the past few years • Most Los Llanos and Canitas residents work in their communities, but also have jobs throughout the zone Presenter: Kathleen Wilson
