God’s LOVE Towards Us !! What is Love ?? God First Loved US (1 Joh 4:10a) Because of His Love – He GAVE… (Joh 3:16) What does it mean for us today ?? Communion – should we have it Regularly ??
God’s Love Towards Us • What is Love ??? • In the Greek there are mainly 3 differentwords describing 3 kinds of Love… • Phileo – Brotherly Love – or Family Love – Very Strong bond • Eros – Where the words Erotic, or Romantic comes from – The love between a Man and a Woman • Agape – Godly Love – Or Mature Love, also called Perfect Love • 1Co 13:4-8 (ESV) Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends (or fails). As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. • THUS: Whatever we understand under Love, we can First Apply to God. • 1Jo 4:7-8 (KJV) Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for GOD IS LOVE !!!
God’s Love Towards Us !!! THUS: God FIRST LOVED US – we can never truly love God nor each other – without experiencing (and being filled with) God’s Love First !!! 1Jo 4:10a Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us.. 1Jo 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us God was, is and will always be the First in everything – in Creation, in Power, in Love and in Life !! Rom 8:29b ….that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Eph 3:16-19 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
God’s Love Towards Us !!! • Now lets look at the rest of 1 Joh 4:10.. • 1Joh 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation (atoning sacrifice) for our sins. • Meaning – that God so Loved us, that He decided to GIVE !! • Joh 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.(because of Love) • Meaning – that True, Pure, Mature, Perfect Love can’t be selfish – it is always willing to GIVE !!! And not just to give something – He gave it ALL !!!
God’s Love Towards Us • Now – what does this means to us today ?? • 1Jo 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. • 1Jo 4:11-13 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. • Joh 13:34-35 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. • Ephesus: • Rev 2:4-5 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. • Laodicea: • Rev 3:15-20 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spit you out of my mouth. • Vers 17: Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
God’s Love Towards Us Why should we have Communion Regularly ?? 1Co 11:23-24 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which He was betrayed took bread: And when He had given thanks, He broke it, and said, Take, eat: this is My body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of Me. 1Co 11:25 After the same manner also He took the cup, when He had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in My blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of Me. 1Co 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till He comes. Dream – The Power of Having Communion Together 1Co 11:27-33 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world. Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another. This scripture – is in fact a WARNING from Paul of what are we missing out on, if we do not partake in the Holy Communion together as we should be doing…
