Energy impact of Lighting Lighting accounts for 2.5% of the global energy use, but for 19% of all electrical energy amounting to 2600 TWh per annum Commercial buildings by far are the most important segment in terms of energy use and show the largest saving potential
Digital Lighting – the Way Ahead • The demand for lighting will triple by 2050 due to the advent of the 24/7 economy • Even when all lighting is replaced by the most efficient technology available (i,e.: LEDs), the energy demand will nearly double from today. • Only by adding intelligence to this digital lighting technology, delivering the right light when and where needed, the energy demand for lighting can be stabilized at the present level
