What were we trying to solve? • Keep better track of people who lead classes/events at BCL • Easily share contacts and experiences with performers • Know what we paid for them • Have promotional information (blurb used, flyer, etc.) • Record of how the program did • Prevent over- and underbooking • Streamlined communication – who to contact and who last contacted them • Anything was better than nothing
Fits and starts since 2016 • Have Francis make something… • An Access database • Excel spreadsheet • Have a friend write it • Store the data in our event management platform
What’s CRM software? • “Used car salesperson” software • Keeps track of customers to help you best market to them • Records of customer interactions… • Helps you know when you should contact someone again • “Don’t you need an oil change?”
This could work… • Track customers? What about vendors? • Knowing when to contact should help with over- and underbooking • I guess we are selling something, in a sense
What were we looking for? • Initially free! • Entirely Web-based and hosted elsewhere • Custom data fields • Enough users • Enough storage to carry us for at least a year • Reasonable pricing if we exceed the limits of the free tier(oops)
