Types of Power Expert Power • During our presentation our group possessed expert power as we were educating our followers during our presentation. We researched information on the topic and possessed a larger knowledge base of internet safety than our followers. Legitimate Power We also possessed Legitimate power during our presentations, we found that many of the students respected us immediately upon learning we were university students and associated STFX students with a certain status. Reward Power • At first we didn’t think that we would posses reward power as we did not have any reward for participation or completion of tasks but it quickly immerged as self fulfillment reward/ “Title” Reward
Leadership Ethics • Ethics is concerned with the kinds of values and morals an individual and society finds desirable or appropriate (Northhouse, 2012) When examining Northouse’s three different approaches to ethical decision making and moral conduct we displayed two of the three; • Utilitarianism: We attempted to create the most good for the greatest amount of people. Bullying effects almost every kid growing up and going to school, informing them on how to deal with it and how to stop it is beneficial to everyone involved. • Altruism: States that actions are moral if they promote the best interests of others. Similar to utilitarianism, cyber bulling is not an huge issue that us university students have to deal with but is massive at the elementary level. We promoted a campaign that would be beneficial to all kids involved in bullying.
