1,000 Days Global leaders gathered in September 2010 to announce 1,000 Days. • In September 2010, on the margins of the Millennium Development Goals summit, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and then-Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin launched the 1,000 Days partnership to draw international attention to the 1,000 day window of opportunity for nutrition from a woman’s pregnancy through age 2. • During this window of opportunity, improved nutrition has an enormous impact on a child’s ability to grow and develop into a healthy adult that can contribute to the long-term prosperity and stability of his or her community. • The 1,000 Days partnership encourages implementation of the Scale Up Nutrition Framework – a multi-sectoral strategy endorsed by over 100 governments, development organizations and scientific groups that supports national nutrition strategies to combat maternal and young child undernutrition. • The 1,000 Days partnership encourages the SUN movement to work for measurable improvements in maternal and child nutrition in the 1,000 days between the September 2010 MDG Summit and June 2013 June 2011
