  4. Learning the letter sounds In Jolly Phonics the 42 sounds of English are taught, as opposed to the alphabet. The sounds are divided into seven groups. (Spanish has considerably less sounds approx. 26.) Each letter sound has it’s own short song & an action. There are also simple games, stories & activities to enhance this learning process.

Summary • Jolly Phonics System - October 2009. • English and Basque teachers have been impressed with the children’s progress overall. • We have noticed many students actually blending words and trying to read words which are in their BIG STORY Books, on flashcards, on the sounds posters, etc. • The children have responded to their English Teachers and to English very well indeed.
