  1. Love, Cajun Styleby: Diane Les Becquets Publisher: Bloomsbury U.S.A Children’s books Date Published: 2005 PowerPoint by: Brittany Roberts

  2. Introduction • The main character, Lucy is just enjoying her summer with her best friends Mary Jordan and Evie. When the new boy, Dewey, and the new drama teacher, Mr. Banks, move into town…sparks fly! • Lucy suspects her mom is having an affair, her aunt has a secret romance, and her bestfriend’s boyfriend may be cheating.

  3. Protagonist Characters • Lucy is very tall, caring, and responsible, yet fun-loving girl who gets tangled up in the web of love. Evie is Lucy’s best friend and is very outgoing, but shuts her feelings away.

  4. Protagonist characters… • Mary Jordan is also Lucy’s best friend. She is very sweet, smart, and reserved. Dewey is the new boy in town. He is gentle and caring. He is a great piano player and is interested in Lucy.

  5. Antagonist Characters Tante Pearl is Lucy’s aunt who is a very large lady. She lives alone but aquires a secret lover. • Mr. Banks is the handsome, new drama teacher who has an interest in Lucy and can’t keep his hands to himself.

  6. Central Conflict • The central conflict in the novel is when Lucy thinks that her mom is having an affair. • Possible solution: Talk to her mom about it instead of taking matters into her own hands.

  7. Minor Characters • Doug is Mary Jordan’s boyfriend whom they play a prank on in the beginning of the book. Lily Dawn is Lucy’s mom. She is a good, Christian, woman who can be a bit nosy.

  8. What the Critics say… • “Love, Cajun Style is infused with the down-home folksiness of the bayou region. Characters constantly pepper their food with Tabasco and pepper their speech with homegrown aphorisms about the nature of love.” –Norah Piehl http://www.teenreads.com/reviews/love-cajun-style • “Like a spicy Cajun stew, this mixes together a lot of ingredients and the result is delicious.” –Booklist http://books.google.com/books?id=P5yGflN-7iMC&pg=PA284&lpg=PA284&dq=love,+cajun+style+curledup.com&source=bl&ots=Z4XfO4yHNy&sig=HXChcXdskmipl7PmjbArHBqt_JA&hl=en&sa=X&ei=-VxqUJz7O4GA9gS-24DwDw&ved=0CEEQ6AEwBw#v=onepage&q=love%2C%20cajun%20style%20curledup.com&f=false

  9. My Opinion • I thought the novel was very well written and entertaining. • Though, I like suspenseful books. • This novel may not draw the attention of boys, it mainly attracts the female audience.
