Value Added Services and MD-VPN Karl Meyer
What do we mean by Value Added Services? • GÉANT is moving beyond Big Fat Pipes • Simply increasing speed/capacity is no longer differentiating us from actual or potential competitors • For most users we offer good enough or fast enough service • Following PMC in Malaga, GÉANT defined Value Added Services as • Services that make a difference to the user • Services that our competitors can’t or won’t offer • Services that close the gap between the user needs and the NREN service offerings
Services that make a difference • Improving the “touch points” • Easier to use • Easier to manage • Solve User Problems • Meet User Needs
Why MD-VPN is valuable to users • Easy to use – takes advantage of IP investment • Point to point, point to multi-point, multi-point to multi-point • Meets flexible needs • Breaks down geographical barriers • End-point location neutral
Why MD-VPN is valuable to NRENs • Simple implementation • Easy to manage • Scalable • Flexible
