UNICOS (UNified Industrial COntrol System): • Provide components, methodology and tools to design control systems. • The UNICOS components are distributed in three layers: • The process control layer • The communication layer • The supervision layer • Reduce the workload for the application developer.   3. What is UiL? • Light weight • Have the main functionality of the PVSS part in UNICOS • Easy to use, set up, modify and expand • Works without any major changes to UNICOS PLC code • Runs on LabVIEW 8.6 with DSC under Windows XP Tomas Aasgård EN-ICE 26 May, 2009

  4. Why UiL? • Some control systems are only expected to exist for a short period of time • Others are small and simple • Lack of time, manpower and resources to invest in PVSS • It is intuitive, graphical, easy to learn, use and debug Tomas Aasgård EN-ICE 26 May, 2009

Summary • UNICOS in LabVIEW will make it easy to create complete control systems • UiL is targeted for applications with short life expectancy and\or where users don’t have the immediate resources to invest in PVSS • LabVIEW can provide this because it is easy to learn, use and debug • Most of the main functionality from UNICOS for PVSS will be available in UiL Tomas Aasgård EN-ICE 26 May, 2009
