How to get Good Grades • In Mr.Yonko’s World History Class • (This PowerPoint was create by a committee of Freshmen: Seneca Koontz, Mariel Kramer, Courtney Drennen, Kathryn Lynch, Jaime Bumbernick, Dan Durham)
Organization • Remember to always keep your binder organized. • Keep all notes, packets, and handouts. • Organize your binder by chapters and sections.
Listening to Mr.Yonko • Try to listen to Mr. Yonko during his powerpoint presentations instead of writing down every word on the slides. • Write anything that’s necessary, but make sure you follow closely and understand what’s happening. • P.S. Don’t fall asleep.
Taking Notes • Notes should be detailed but not overwhelming. ORGANIZE THEM. • Read a paragraph, take notes, and re-read. • Put your notes in order. Underline people, dates, treaties/acts [and their dates], and any key points. • Put about 2 topics per paragraph. • Read the side bars. Notes aren’t necessary for the side bar, but it is good information to know, and it gives a fuller understanding of the topics.
Preparing for Quizzes • Try not to write the chapters word-for-word; only list major events, people, and places. • Take about 1 hour per section once a day before the quiz date. • Know when all your quizzes are scheduled beforehand; they’re on the syllabus.
After the Quiz • Just because the quiz is over does not mean that information can be forgotten. • KEEP YOUR NOTES. YOU WILL NEED THEM FOR THE CHAPTER TEST. • If you missed any questions on the quiz, write the question and answer in your notes. It will most likely show up on the test.
Test Day • Get plenty of sleep. Don’t stay up cramming; spread your workload out evenly throughout the week. • THE PROBLEM: Students are using memorization in place of understanding. Questions aren’t straight out of the textbook verbatim. • Understand what you read, and you won’t have to rely solely on your notes. • Remember: BE PREPARED.
After the Test • Try to remember most of what you’ve learned. All chapters covered are on the midterm/final. • KEEP ALL NOTES UNTIL AFTER THE MIDTERM OR FINAL!!!!
The Final • Keep all of your notes, handouts, and packets. You can use them on the midterm and final. You will not be allowed to use your textbook. • Review all of the chapters with the help of your review packet [provided by Mr.Yonko.] • Relax, and don’t cram.
The End • Good Luck. Seneca Koontz
