Overview • Brief Procedure Introduction • Vein Analysis • Syndaver Labs Synthetic Vein Tissue Testing • FEA Synthetic Vein Tissue Analysis • FEA Vein Environment Modeling Analysis • Prototype • Assembly/Construction Progress • Proof of Concept
Vein Extraction Procedure • Prepare the Pacemaker Pocket • Detach Pacemaker Leads • Prepare Leads • Insert LLD (Lead Locking Device) • Expand LLD to lock in place • Deploy Laser Over Lead and LLD • Lase through all Fibrous Tissue • Problem Lies in Fibrous Occlusions
Syndaver Labs Tissue Testing • Testing Procedure • Lowering tissue onto laser tip (12 french) • Reading force tissue exerts on laser on a scale • Increase force by lowering tissue until rupture • 18 Tests were conducted • 6 tests at three different angles were tested • Tried to model the angles that may occur during surgery • Each test lasted an average of 1 minute and 53 seconds
Sythetic Vein FEA • COMSOL was the software used • Limits of Software • Do not know true material properties of Syndaver tissue • Cannot model tearing • Cannot model soft tissue • Non-linear • Non-homogeneous • Transient response
Vein Environment FEA • Software Used was SolidWorks • Limits of Software • Cannot model tearing • Unknown material properties (Poisson’s Ratio) • Cannot accurately model vein constraints • Cannot model soft tissue • Non-linear • Non-homogeneous • Transient response
Prototype • Design made to minimize cost while preserving durability and usability • Construction was difficult to get coordinated • Mind Studios vs. Machine Shop • End Result • Proof of Concept Design • Recommendations
