  2. Sky Blue • The Sun emits equal amounts of all wavelengths of visible light, and is therefore WHITE light • Atmospheric nitrogen and oxygen absorb and scatter short wavelengths • Blue light is scattered in all directions, while other wavelengths travel in a straight line to your eye

  3. Sun Yellow • Because blue light is scattered, the sunlight that travels directly to your eye is missing blue light • White light – blue light = ??

  4. Sunset Red • When the sun is low in the sky, its light travels through more atmosphere • Blue AND some green light is scattered • The remaining wavelengths are orange and red • Dust particles also reflect red light
