Cobblestone School New York(Ann Hardin) • Cobblestone School is an independent, nonsectarian, elementary Essential School, located in Rochester, New York. The school offers a full-day program and after-school care for children ages 4 through 12 years, Pre-K through Sixth Grade. Cobblestone is an Affiliate of the Coalition of Essential Schools.
Essentialism Practiced • Cobblestone school recognizes that all children develop at different rates and have different learning styles. In order for students to make sense of the world a combination of real-life experiences (planning group activities and making snacks, for example), theme-based explorations, discovery through math manipulative activities and group discussions of strategies and thinking are used. The approach is to go with a child’s natural curiosity.
Why do I fit in this school • I think this school fits me because students learn at different rates and they should be assessed upon their own growth and not based on what others are doing. Students should also be exposed to real life situations since I believe that a goal of a teacher is to provide our students with skills to help them become responsible citizens. Also, a child’s natural interests are considered. • www.cobblestone.org
