Benefits of Student Growth Objectives • For Students: Promote reflective and collaborative teaching practices, alignment among standards, instruction, and assessment, and improvements in student learning. • For Teachers: Provide a method by which teachers can improve their practice while clearly demonstrating their effectiveness through student progress. • For Administrators: Share in the SGO results of their teachers and can use the SGO process to help ensure each student receives the best possible education within their school environment. SGO Requirements • Specific and measurable academic goals that are aligned to state academic standards; • Based on student growth and/or achievement using available student learning data; and • Developed by a teacher in consultation with his/her supervisor. Rancocas Valley Regional High School
September 2nd – 12th • Administer Pre-tests • Assessment(s) must be approved by supervisor • Assessments must be an appropriate tool to measure existing knowledge of content or skill Rancocas Valley Regional High School
September 19th • SMART goals and strategies due to supervisors • Duration • Courses • Tiered vs Simple • Growth vs Achievement • Strategies • Multiple sources of data Rancocas Valley Regional High School
SGO SMART Goals Specific - Focused by content area and by learners’ needs Measurable - Appropriate assessment instrument/measure Appropriate - Clearly related to role/responsibilities of teacher Realistic - Attainable by the instructional professional Time-bound – Limited to a single school year or timeframe Rancocas Valley Regional High School
October 6th Supervisors submit to Curriculum and Instruction October 6th – 10th Final administrative approval meetings with CSA Rancocas Valley Regional High School
October 31st • All SGOs approved and finalized • CSA notifies the state that all are set • Teachers have OASYS parts I-V completed Rancocas Valley Regional High School
November • Mid-year meetings • Teachers meet with supervisors to review progress and strategies • Teachers have OASYS part VI completed Rancocas Valley Regional High School
January • Administer Post-test • Assessment must be approved by supervisor • Administer and score assessment • Teachers have OASYS part VI completed Rancocas Valley Regional High School
February • Final SGO achievement meetings • Teachers meet with supervisor to discuss data and the level of achievement • Teachers have OASYS part VII completed • SGO forms submitted in OASYS Rancocas Valley Regional High School
Spring • Planning for next year • Teachers should begin to set a direction for the following year’s SGO • Pre and post assessments are developed and approved for the following year Rancocas Valley Regional High School
