    1. OIF-III – M240D Machine Gun for the CH-46E 05018UA Project Image Description Requested by I MEF. The M240D machine gun was identified as a combat requirement to provide rear area hemisphere defense for the CH-46E aircraft. The M240D equipped with the egress kit is designed for rear Hemisphere defense of the CH-46E. The procurement of the M240D machine guns will allow the aircrew to fire the M240D with egress kits for the ramp of the CH-46E, and provide the aircrew the ability to suppress enemy fire as they enter or exit a hot landing zone or hostile environment.  Proposed Solution Fully Funded, using NavAir BTR. Total of 84 systems were requested. Status (as of 10 May 05) Briefed and approved at the 7 Mar 05 MROC. OSIP being staffed within PMA-42/NAVAIR ahead of schedule Sole-Source J&A and contracting vehicle in place with APML at Crane; awaiting funding. Currently, a total of 72 weapons and 42 Egress Kits are forward deployed; 6 weapons and 6 Egress Kits remain at 3DMAW for training. When OSIP established, ASE funding will enable the purchase of 48 weapons for USN Pay-back.
