  2. What is Global Warming? • Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and the oceans since the mid-twentieth century and its projected continuation.

  3. What does the increase in temperature mean? • Increasing global temperature will cause sea levels to riseand will change the amount and pattern of precipitation, likely including an expanse of the subtropical desert regions. Other likely effects include Artic shrinkage and resulting in Artic Methane shrinkage of the Amazon rainforest It will also increase the intensity of extreme weather events, and change the ranges of disease vectors.

  4. What causes global warming? • Carbon Dioxide from Power Plants • Carbon Dioxide Emitted from Cars, airplanes, and buildings. • Deforestation • City Gridlock • Carbon in Atmosphere and Ocean • Nitrous oxide • Methane

  5. Effects • Rising tides • Some scientists predict that a warmer climate will trigger more violent storms, which will cause increased rates of coastal erosion. This is a section of shoreline at Cape Hatteras in North Carolina in the USA, pictured in 1999 and 2004. The southern United States and Caribbean region were battered by a series of powerful hurricanes last year. • Rising sea levels are also expected to speed up coastal erosion.
