  1. Michelin Project Soufflage removal from an NC post

  2. Concept 1:Near Frictionless Carbon Coating • "An ultra carbon film coating many times slicker then Teflon has been developed by Argonne researchers. The new material's friction coefficient is less than 0.001 when measured in a dry nitrogen; 20 times lower than the previous record held by molybdenum disulphide. When tested under the same conditions Teflon was found to have a coefficient of friction os around 0.04" • Advantages: • Exceptional resistance and durability result in an extended product service life • Can be processed quickly with a high quality finish. It requires no further machining or grinding. • Compatible with many surfaces including plastics.

  3. Concept 2:Adjustment Tool • Each fan-shaped roller has three sectors of different length. Each sector along with it’s counterpart will make a certain size. Plugs on the bottom of the rollers hold them in position while operating. • Key Features: • Small rollers on each guide reduce friction. • Three plugs forming a triangle to fix the adjustment.

  5. Concept 3:Low Resistance Roller With Bearings Lower arm bearing allows a small degree of rotation to accommodate the rubber coming off the rollers slightly off center. Adjustable guides allows the operator to change the width of the roller surface quickly by simply unscrewing the thumb screw on the bottom of the adjuster block and moving it to the required pre-set width, which would be set at 13”, 14” and 15”. Fibre reinforced plastic roller and guide wheels would reduce their weight, and therefore reduce the amount of friction which would occur in revolving the roller and wheels on the bearings.

  6. Concept 4Self Contained Pneumatic Roller This system consists of a cylinder, coated with the material referred to in Concept 1, all mounted on a steel frame. The coated cylinder, combined with an independent air supply allows material to be fed into the machine with almost no friction at all. Advantages of this system include the elimination of the current pneumatic system that has known problems such as leakage. Each roller will therefore be independent and a single malfunction will not affect the entire system. The model includes a set of rotating guides, which are further detailed in Concept 2. Overall this will be a quieter more cost efficient design which can be easily integrated. One draw back to this design is that without the incorporation of filters into the design there is a risk of factory dust contaminating material fed into the machine.
