PROJECT „ HOPSCOTCH. IN SEARCH OF VINTAGE GAMES ” ( 2008 - 2010 ) II Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Piotra Firleja w Lubartowie
About the project The idea of the project „Hopscotch. In search of vintage games” is to draw the youth away from sitting in front of the computer and to discern that not only the virtual world is beautiful. In the first year of the enterprise, together with the school from Estonia we carried out a survey among those connected with the knowledge of vintage games (e.g. kapsle, palant). We got the biggest amount of information from elderly people, which is of great importance since one of the aims of the project is building up the intergeneration bonds. During the first visit to Poland, out of a huge database, we chose some games from both countries. All the activities we have undertaken are based on the values of friendship, respect, goodness, sincerity, love, trust and tolerance. The very project is propagated in the form of brochures, multimedia presentations in other schools in the town and in the local environment. The Partner Project Comenius enables the fulfilment of the cognitive aims assumed by the schools; it enables the students to develop the curiosity of the world, get to know other cultures, tolerance and cooperative skills in different circumstances. It teaches the existence in the contemporary world and international cooperation and allows the students to improve their language skills. Both the schools have great experience in cooperation and implementing both projects and other actions on the national and international stage. Caps playing the game which uses bottle caps which are snapped along a defined route. During 1980s there were popular so called ‘peace rallies’. The games in the shape of a rally/race were conducted along the set trail, where the caps inside were coloured to symbolize the flags of particular countries- these which took part in the real peace rally. The flags were stuck by means of plasticine or transparent plastic. the flags could be bought in some youth shops, but usually they were made by players themselves by cutting them from encyclopedias or atlases. - Wikipedia - * The number of players- it depends on the length and the width of the trail. The game is more interesting when at least a few players take part. * Place- the game takes place on the designed route; you can play in a room, a gym, and, of course, outdoors. * items needed: bottle caps playing the substitutes of real players. The route can be done : - in case of a room or a gym, by means of yarn or pieces of paper fixed to the floor with plasticine - outdoors: by means of lines drawn by a stick, or sticks themselves and on the beach the trail can be formed with a foot in sand . the route depends on the place and the materials we have at our disposal. The same situation is with obstacles on the route-our suggestions should not limit any players’ imagination.
The aim is to win the race and overcome obstacles chich are on route. The game itself 1 The game starts at the starting line and the players draw lots to start. 2. the participant has only one hit during one turn. 3. the cap always needs to follow the route. You can’t take shortcuts. 4. the cap needs to stop within the route set by the threads or needs to touch it. 5.if the cap after being snapped is out of the trail the player must come back to the previous place both after the player’s hit or after being hit by the opponent’s cap. 6. the game of a player is finished if his/her cap crosses the finish line with its circumference. 2 The route is set freely and its length and obstacles depend on imagination and the time we can afford to play this game. „ A snap ” 4 Caps are numbered to make easier the recognition of participants.
Special zones reversing- if a cap of a player stops within or on the border of the red area it is moved back to the white area. Speeding up- if a cap of a player stops within or on the border of the blue zone is is speeded up to the next blue zone. Losing your turn – if a cap stops on or touches the black point then a player loses his/her turn. Miss of turn. If a cap of the player stops in or on the border of the black point then the player misses his turn. This game can be great idea for family fun. Its simplicity and no age limits enables to spend nice time for a family which consists of even a few generations.
If we have more players we can try to organize team competition and then the victory goes to the team who scored more points;e.g. in a game took part 15 players ( 5 teams 3 players each) so in this game the first player gets 15 points, the second 14 etc. the total of received points decides about the each team’s place. If teams have equal number of points then the place of the best player decides about the place of the team.
