  11. Escola Secundária 3 EB Dr. Jorge Correia - Tavira Context In the Algarve we are closer to Morocco than Porto, Braga, Viana do Castelo ... However, how many of our students think to go or have already been to Morocco? How many equate this trip? Certainly a very small percentage. However, the history of the Algarve is indelibly linked to the history of North Africa although the textbooks do not relate it. The history of Garb is written from the Christian conquest of the North, wrongly referred to as reconquest , and never from the ties with the Rif (North Africa). We want to give our contribution so that students realize that there is a history beyond the official programs and they are also another product of this history. We want to preserve the memory of 500 years of History of Garb from different protagonists: the Christian kings in the north, the Berbers, Arabs, Jews, and current populations, resulting from the mixing of all. … The ‘reunion’ with North Africa will be far in the fifteenth century, 250 years later, in an attempt reverse, now are the masters of Garb that make the Holy War across the Strait of Gibraltar.
