  2. Preliminaries • Respond briefly to the following prompt: "People often leave movie theaters in tears. Has this ever happened to you? Name a movie that made you cry (or at least made you want to cry), and describe the specific scene that emotionally moved you to this point.”

  3. Objectives: • The students will be able to identify examples of pathos in Animal Farm. • The students will be able to write and present an original eulogy for the character Boxer. • The students will be able to explain how the pigs profit from Boxer’s death.

  4. Focus Lesson: Eulogizing… • Literary Terms • Pathos • Knacker • Divide into 5 groups. Each group will group will write a 2-paragraph eulogy to Boxer on one of the following: • Group #1: Boxer’s strength • Group #2: Boxer’s loyalty • Group #3: Boxer’s relationship with other animals • Group #4: Boxer’s work ethic • Group #5: Boxer’s ultimate sacrifice • Share out
