Fayol vs. Weber • Henri Fayol • Hierarchy of Authority- workers should know whom to report and managers have right to give orders and expect employees to follow • Authority- Managers have power to enforce obedience • Centralization- depending on company size decision making should vary between one or more mangers with regards to major/minor issues
Fayol vs. Weber cont. Max Weber • Put great trust in managers and employees do well if just follow what they are told • Less decision making the better • Downside: companies who follow this may find themselves less effective due to employees not being able to respond quickly to situations (Empowerment Ch. 7)
Wendy’s • Founded by Dave Thomas on November 15, 1969 in Columbus, Ohio • By 2010 was third largest fast food hamburger fast food chain with over 6,500 restaurants • 77% of Wendy’s restaurants are franchised across the United States which has effect on the bureaucracy and product decisions

Working at Wendy’s • Worked there for 1 and half years • Recently promoted to Shift Supervisor (First Line Manager) • Worked at a franchised store and currently employed by a corporate store
Wendy’s as Company • Tall or Flat organization? • Can be seen as both. The restaurants have a flat organization on the day to day business with that it deals with only few management heads while the corporate structure has numerous departments such as product, training, and advertisement.
Advertising • Recent advertising for the Pretzel burger has not just been on television but on social media which has aimed at the Millennial Generation (Generation Y)
