  3. Puerto Rico Earthquake and Tsunami - 1918 • “San Fermín Earthquake” • 10:14 am on October 11, 1918 • 7.5 M • Tsunami 20 feet (5.5 to 6 meters) • 116 Casualties

Mameyes, Ponce Landslide 1985 • October 7, 1985 at 3:30am • 22 inches of rain in 24 hours • 129 Casualties and 300 injured • More than 100 homes damaged • $63 Millions in Federal Assistance • “Block Slide” type of landslide • Search and Rescue Team from USA, Mexico, Venezuela and France • Five (5) Days of Search and Rescue Operations. • Assessed Homes due to unstable ground area.

  6. Hotel DuPont Plaza Fire • December 31, 1986 at 3:00pm • 97 Casualties in less than 12 minutes • 180 injured. • 13 Fire trucks, 100 firefighters and 37 ambulances responded.

  7. Humberto Vidal Explosion • Thursday, November 22, 1996 at 8:35am • Six (6) story building shoe store in Rio Piedras • Building was virtually destroyed and later on demolished. • 33 Casualties • 80 injured • Broken propane gas line and the ignition source was the air conditioning switch with heating wiring. • “Rio Piedras Explosion”
