Make snack time fun for your kids with these tasty and healthy kid-friendly snack recipes. Nutritious food supports learning, the immune system and overall development.
1) Egg Delight One egg provides a 4-year-old with almost one-third of their protein requirements for the day. You can give a hardboiled egg or scramble an egg and make an egg sandwich. 2) Whole Grain Cereal A bowl of enriched whole grain cereal with milk and fruit is a very healthy breakfast. You can use different cereal flavors and fruits to make the meal more exciting for your child. 3) Cheese Recipes Cheese can be used along with any snack. Place a cheese slice in a sandwich or use a cheese and crackers. Cheese is high in protein and is a delicious snack that will keep your child’s energy levels high until mealtime. 4) Smoothies Kids love smoothies. Use nonfat vanilla yogurt, pure orange juice, and a banana as the smoothie's base, then experiment with a combination of cut-up fresh or frozen fruit.
5) Fruits Fruits provide essential minerals and vitamins that boost your child’s immune system. When you are short on time, consider slicing an apple, adding a banana, or packing some blueberries or strawberries. 6) Healthier Baked Goods If your child has trouble eating fruits and vegetables, you can try serving them in the form of tasty muffins or breads. Great examples include zucchini muffins, banana bread, and carrot muffins. 7) Oatmeal Instead of buying the high-sugar, high-fat varieties from the store, bake up a batch of oatmeal cookies and serve cookies and milk. You can add in whatever you want -- raisins, dried apricots, or nuts to boost the nutritional value and taste. 8) Low-fat yogurt Children need a lot of calcium to form strong, healthy bones and teeth; yogurt is an excellent source. You can incorporate granola, berries or other fruits to enhance the taste and nutritional value.
9) Sweet Potatoes Sweet potato is one of the most nutritious vegetables and it is rich in Vitamin A and Vitamin B6 complex.
