Who are Emperor Penguins? * Emperor Penguins are birds that cannot fly but swim very well. * They are the largest of all the penguins. They stand 4 ft. (1.2 meters) tall and weigh 70 to 90 lbs ( 30 to 40 kg.). * They lay 1 egg at a time. Sometimes they lay 2 eggs but only one baby is born. * Their short wings help them swim fast.
Adaptations * The shape of their body helps them to survive. They have short wings to help them dive up to 900 feet to catch a larger fish. * Most penguins build a nest, but many of them may be made from rocks or scrapings or just hollows in the dirt or snow. Their material may be wood (if there is some), rocks, or they may build them underground. (They build them underground so the cold air doesn't come in easily.)
