Establishing International Service Project Oversight at UT Advantages • Strong student interest • Diverse faculty with expertise in many areas • Strong International Program and Risk Assessment Challenges • Service not integrated into faculty research programs • Technical and logistical oversight is complicated • We are responsible for success of final product
Fall 2008 Course - ME279M: Engineers Without Borders Existing Project • Cameroon Water Project at Saker Baptist College • Spring 2008 Course – Independent study, More guidance needed Modeled after ME senior design course • Well-defined project including technical design • Team-based approach • Technical oversight from other faculty or professional • Faculty provided administrative oversight • TA monitored
Fall 2008 Course Differences from senior design • Include education on local culture • Single project for entire class with sub-projects • Final design would be built in foreign location
