ONLINE TESTING This year HCPS will test all middle and high school students online
Standard Operating Procedure Test Nav Upcoming PEMS trainings Coding 101 Advantages to online versus paper Issues to Review
Numbers Don’t Lie • 40,915 Middle school SOL tests were given last year!!
Standard Operating Procedure • The SOP is a document that Research & Planning and Technology draft together to make sure both departments are on the same page with online testing • It provides a timeline with dates, duties and specific details on who is responsible for what
SOP • The SOP is drafted in January & February and distributed to schools in March during Team Meetings • Teams at each school include: principal, STC, Trainer, AP, Backup for STC & ITRT
Test Nav • Test Nav is the test delivery application that students use to take their test • Test Nav emulates a web browser and connects only to the testing site
PEMS Trainings • There will be ample PEMS Trainings beginning in January to teach the online side of the system • Counting test booklets and answer documents will be replaced with setting up online test sessions in PEMS
Middle & High School Testing Training will be done at the same time for Spring so the CARS may assist • Opportunities will be given in January and/or May for Middle School STCs to observe online testing at the high schools
CODING 101 • All coding information is in the Student Data Upload (SDU) File Requirements. • Coding 101 will be provided to help guide STC’s in coding requirements
Online Versus Paper Testing • Online testing eliminates boxes and boxes of materials STCs must sort, count and disseminate • Secure materials are test tickets rather than test booklets (these are printed ahead of time and distributed to teachers the day of the test)
More Pros for Online • Most of the work is done before testing so that once the tests are done, the main task would be coding accommodations and transfers. (rather than counting answer documents and test booklets and spending a few hours returning those materials to the R & P Warehouse)
The #1 Reason Online is Better: • Test Results are immediate for previously equated SOL tests • Typically when a student submits his/her test in Test Nav, the scores are available within 10 minutes • If a test must be equated by the DOE, scores may take up to 3 weeks to come through (comparable to paper test score returns)
