Why PEFC Forest Certification in Finland? • Promotes sustainable forest management • Supports marketing of wood products - Serves as a market communication tool for forest industry companies • Demonstrates that forest owners and other actors in forestry commit themselves to the sustainable forestry • Leads to efficient and high-quality activities in forestry organisations

PEFC utilises structuresof the Finnish private forestry  Regional group certification (non- industrial, forest industry owned and other private forests as well as state owned forests together on voluntary basis)  Also wood procurement organisations,machine contractors and other forestry organisations are committed to PEFC certification

PEFC co-operateswith public sector • Use of regional data collected by Forestry Centres under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry • State-owned forests participate the regional group certification according to Metsähallitus/Forest and Park Service’s own decisions • Accreditation of certification bodies by National Accreditation Service FINAS under the Ministry of Trade and Industry Wide participation of stakeholders in both private-sector and public-sector initiatives
