Why PEFC Forest Certification in Finland? • Promotes sustainable forest management • Supports marketing of wood products - Serves as a market communication tool for forest industry companies • Demonstrates that forest owners and other actors in forestry commit themselves to the sustainable forestry • Leads to efficient and high-quality activities in forestry organisations
PEFC utilises structuresof the Finnish private forestry Regional group certification (non- industrial, forest industry owned and other private forests as well as state owned forests together on voluntary basis) Also wood procurement organisations,machine contractors and other forestry organisations are committed to PEFC certification
PEFC co-operateswith public sector • Use of regional data collected by Forestry Centres under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry • State-owned forests participate the regional group certification according to Metsähallitus/Forest and Park Service’s own decisions • Accreditation of certification bodies by National Accreditation Service FINAS under the Ministry of Trade and Industry Wide participation of stakeholders in both private-sector and public-sector initiatives
