  1. Unit 3 Economics Final Assessment

  2. Sochi Winter Olympics • The 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia begin on February 7 and finish on February 23. • Your job during the Olympics will be to follow what is happening in Sochi and collect data to meet our curriculum outcomes for Unit 3 - Economics.

  3. Big Question Learning • Think of this as Learning 2.0. Instead of having you memorize and repeat a bunch of facts on a test you have a chance to apply what you learned in your own way. • You must relate your research on Sochi to what we have done in class on Economics. Sectors of the economy, definitions, Power Point notes should all be used to demonstrate your learning.

  4. The BIG Question “How are the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics an example of the globalization of economics?”

  5. Outcome 9.3.2 • Analyse factors that contribute to the globalization of economic activity. • In other words, it is asking you to look at the things that make it possible for our economy to be part of the world economy. How do they connect? • Think about the resources and the goods and services it must take to operate an event this large.

  6. Outcome 9.3.3 • Demonstrate an understanding of how the globalization of economic activity affects Atlantic Canadians and others in the global community. • All the world’s economies are connected. You must show the impact that the Sochi Olympics is having on Atlantic Canada and examine how we are contributing to the Winter Games.

  7. What do I pass in? • Your assessment will be collected your first class after the Olympics end (week of Feb. 24-28). You will work on this every SS class in the meantime. • Your final assessment can be in any form you want – paper or digital – as long as you demonstrate a clear and thorough understanding of the outcomes.
